"Hell Hath No Fury"
On November 28, 2006, Virginia Beach Rap duo, Clipse, released their highly anticipated second studio album entitled “Hell Hath No Fury.” After the success of the debut album, “Lord Willin,” and the smash hit single “Grindin,” Clipse’s work on a sophomore album was put on hold due to record label changes. The Thornton brothers’ frustration showed up in the music which was much darker than their debut. Production credits for the entire album are attributed to The Neptunes though Pusha T would later say that Pharrell Williams produced the album on his own. Hell Hath received critical acclaim from fans and critics alike. At the time, the album was only the sixth in the history of XXL Magazine to receive the top "XXL” rating.
Re-Up Gang: We Got It 4 Cheap!
A huge part of the story of “Hell Hath No Fury’ is the anticipation. Fans waited as record label drama caused a gap between the Clipse’s first two album releases. The guys filled that gap with the release of the mixtape series—“We Got It 4 Cheap”—further driving fans’ appetite for a new Clipse album. Teaming up with Philly rappers, Ab-Liva and Sandman to form the Re-Up Gang, Clipse gave fans mixtape classics of that era.
The press run for Clipse’s latest album release, “Let God Sort Em Out” in summer 2025, was lauded for its strategy, cohesion, and authenticity. The Thornton brothers have talked about their respect for the old school approach to Hip-Hop journalism and media. That reverence and appreciation felt in 2025 was also shown during the lead up to “Hell Hath No Fury.” Here are two magazine cover featuring the duo that were released in 2006 to promote Hell Hath:
